A late 19th century scrapbook , containing approximately thirty signatures of various dignitaries and celebrities of the period. Signatures are on cards and affixed to the album pages including Geronimo, who signs "GERONIMO" in pencil on a 3.5 x 1.75" slip of blue paper, as well as the general who convinced him to surrender in 1886, Nelson A. Miles, who signs, "Nelson A. Miles Major General U.S. Army" on a 3.75 x 2.25" card. The album measures 9.5" x 12.25", contains 68 unpaginated leaves, and is bound in soft black leatherette wraps. Wraps and spine show signs of rubbing, especially at the corners. There is light toning to pages.
An unusual association piece bringing two of the most famous figures of the Indian Wars of the late nineteenth century. Other luminaries from the period appear in the same album including McKinley's War and Navy Secretaries, Russel A. Alger and Garret A. Hobart, as well as Generals William R. Shafter, Wesley Merritt, and John R. Brooke. Other military figures include John J. Pershing, Lew Wallace, William S. Rosecrans, and James Forsyth. The original owner also obtained the signatures of other popular figures of the period including William Jennings Bryan, Levi P. Morton, Eugene Field, James Whitcomb Riley, Palmer Cox, Julia Marlowe, Joseph Jefferson, and many others. Authenticated by JSA.
