Winning a record four elections President Franklin Delano Roosevelt helped to renew the spirit of America by enacting the New Deal which brought relief, recovery and reform to the economy and the countries workers during the Great Depression. Though, when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Roosevelt declared war against Japan and Germany, forever changing the course of World War II and history itself. This Maggie & Jiggs original artwork on an envelope addressed to FDR was done by cartoonist George McManus which measures 7.5” x 3.75”. This item comes from Roosevelt’s own “Bouquets & Brickbats” collection and was sent by air mail to, “His Excellency” and has been postmarked Los Angeles, June 8, 1938. On the upper left hand corner of the envelope McManus has drawn and colored head shots of Maggie and Jiggs, who were two of the main characters in his comic strip that was popular with the American public, which ran from 1913 to 2000. The envelope is attached to a vintage White Ace stamp album page that features a black and white picture of President Roosevelt.
