Named for the mother of pilot Colonel Paul Tibbets, the Enola Gay was the Boeing B-29 Superfortress bomber plane flown by Tibbets when he flew the first aircraft used to drop an atomic bomb. Nicknamed “Little Boy” the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945. Offered here is a scale model replica of “Little Boy” measuring 10” x 3” x 2” affixed to an ebony mount and covered in Plexiglas with an explanatory metal plate signed by Tibbets in bold blue sharpie which contains the following text: “Col. Tibbets was solely responsible for the organization, training and command of the world’s first nuclear strike force. On the morning of August 6, 1945 Col. Tibbets flew the Enola Gay into the future by dropping the world’s first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan; comes with The University Companies, Westport, CT description sheet.
