His whimsical usage of language – both real and fabricated – made Dr. Seuss a household name for children and parents alike. This letter was written by the man whose real name was Theodor (Ted) Geisel to his assistant, Julie Olfe, in July of 1968 on letterhead measuring 7.25x10” from the Ponderosa Hotel in Reno, Nevada. His broad fountain pen strokes address “Gentil (sic) Julie” and discuss his exploits, including the 99 degree temperature in Reno. Geisel also mentions animator Chuck Jones of Bugs Bunny fame, who also animated the TV version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” before signing, “Love Ted” with his trademark squiggle in between.
