With playoff hopes having faded, the New York Yankees entered their final home stand of the 2014 season knowing that the countdown to Derek Jeter’s magical career was nearly complete. This base was used during that home stand, on September 19, when the Bombers scored a 5-3 victory over Toronto. The Yankee captain has signed in black marker, and the underside bears the notation “9/19/14 9th inning 3rd base.” Plates on each side pay tribute to Jeter; one with his career years, one noting “14-Time All-Star”; another sporting “1996 Rookie of the Year”; and the fourth indicating “2000 World Series MVP.” The peg is not attached to this base.
