This rare "Mickey Mantle Day" display consists of an outstanding 11 X 14 Mickey Mantle signed color photograph which he has also inscribed with the date “1965,” taken from this historic day celebrated at Yankee Stadium on September 18, 1965. The Yankees held this day honoring Mantle on the occasion of his 2000th career game played as a Yankee. Only Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra, and Babe Ruth played in more games as a Yankee up until then. On hand this day to celebrate Mantle's courage in having played through much pain throughout his career and his many accomplishments as a Yankee since his 1951 rookie year were Joe DiMaggio who introduced Mantle to the ceremony and New York's distinguished Senator Robert Kennedy whom is pictured with Mantle in this photograph. Mantle was again honored with a Day in his honor after he retired from baseball when in 1969 the Yankees retired his uniform number "7" and unveiled his monument on the hallowed Stadium grounds of Monument Park. Mantle established a long list of accomplishments during his 18-year career including 536 home runs, the record for most World Series home runs (18), winning three MVP Awards and a Triple Crown and having played more games as a Yankee (2401) than any other Yankee player in history.
