It is an image that captured an epic moment in U.S. history – on August 14, 1945 a sailor locked in a passionate kiss with a nurse in New York City's Times Square at the end of World War II. The couple in the 1945 photograph was revealed to be George Mendonsa and Greta Zimmer Friedman. The photograph has been inscribed “Times Square V.J. Day 8/14/1945 U.S.S. The Sullivans 1943 to 1946” by the Sailor George Mendonsa and comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (K69169).
