In 1933, Lou Gehrig became engaged to Eleanor Twitchell of Chicago. They married in September, and remained together until Gehrig’s untimely death due to ALS. Twitchell, who was born in 1904 and died in 1984, was the daughter of Chicago Parks Commissioner Frank Twitchell. This photograph shows Gehrig and Twitchell together at Comiskey Park before a White Sox-Yankees game on June 20th, 1933. The Yankees won this game 15-8, as Babe Ruth, Bill Dickey, and Dixie Walker all homered. Gehrig finished 2-5 with two RBI and two runs scored. This photograph measures 7 x 9 inches and is in terrific condition. A wire caption for the photograph is applied to the reverse side.
