Grinding center Orest Kindrachuk was a key member of the famed “Broad Street Bullies” Philadelphia Flyers teams of the early 1970s, anchoring a fearsome third-line with his pugnacious teammates Dave “The Hammer” Schultz and Don “Big Bird” Saleski. Kindrachuk made a two-game cameo appearance during the 1972-73 season but played a crucial role for the Flyers during their back-to-back Stanley Cup winning years in 1974 and 1975, scoring 72 points between the two seasons. Kindrachuk played six seasons for the Flyers before a trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he served as the team’s captain for three campaigns. Kindrachuk retired after spending the 1981-82 season with the Washington Capitals.
Before Kindrachuk played for the Flyers, Kindrachuk suited up for the San Diego Gulls of the WHL. Kindrachuk won their Rookie of the Year award in 1971-72, his only season with the team. Kindrachuk recorded 18 goals and 36 assists in only 61 games with the Gulls that season. This Rookie of the Year award measures roughly 11 inches tall, and depicts a gold hockey player standing atop a cylindrical stand. A plaque on the bottom of the trophy reads “San Diego Gulls / Rookie of the Year 1971-72 / Orest Kindrachuk”. This item comes with a LOA from Orest Kindrachuk.
