JULY 19TH AUCTION

1912-1925 Spalding Gold Medal Autograph Model Sam Crawford bat.
Known to fans and teammates as “Wahoo Sam” after his Nebraska home
town, Sam Crawford is one of the all-time great Detroit Tigers. Before
Babe Ruth, Sam Crawford was one of the games’ best power hitters. He
still holds the MLB record for most inside-the-park home runs in a
season with 12 and most career triples with 309. He was the first player
in history to win a home run championship in both the National and
American leagues and many consider him among the top 10 best hitters in
history and he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1957. When
the sporting goods giant Spalding started manufacturing their Gold Medal
Autograph bats, it was only natural that a Sam Crawford model would be
included. Since Spalding Gold Medal Sam Crawford Autograph bats were
available to both professional players and the public alike, we can not
say with certainty that Wahoo Sam himself used this bat, only that it
was manufactured during the 1912-1925 time frame and that major league
ballplayers such as Johnny Evers did use Spalding Autograph bats in
games. The 35”long, 36.9oz uncracked bat shows evidence of heavy use
with many ball and stitch marks and green bat rack marks. The wood has
aged to a warm, golden brown color and the Spalding and Crawford
signature brand displays well. The knob end has the round Spalding logo
engraved in the wood and barrel end has PSA/DNA sticker number 1B05341
affixed. Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
