Despite standing a mere 5-9 in height, and weighing only 170 pounds, Mel Ott was one of the most feared hitters of his era. Ott became the first ever National League player to smash 500 homers in 1945, and ended with 511 round-trippers, which is currently 23rd all-time. During his brilliant 22-year career, "Master Melvin" was a 12-time all-star and had his number 4 retired by the Giants. In 1958, Ott died tragically in an auto accident at the tender age of 49. This postcard has been signed by the Hall of Fame slugger in a black fountain tip pen and it reads "To Charlene Very Best Wishes". The year 1944 is written on top middle of the card, most likely indicating the year this was signed. The words from the postcard are written in French and the opposite side of the postcard is a picture of the French Cathedral. A very nice signature by one of the most popular players of the 1930's. Signature has been authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
