JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
This date is the unquestioned key date in the Indian Head Cent series. The 1877 has long been considered the most difficult date to find in any grade, and coins graded XF-40 or better are considered rare. This mildly circulated piece should see spirited bidding as both collectors and investors seek value for their money.
This cent housed in an older green label PCGS holder was submitted for certification back in the 1990's. The weakness in the lower right portion of the letter 'N' in one proves this was struck from dies prepared for circulation strikes. Some coins were struck from retired proof dies and have a strong 'N'. Surfaces display a chestnut hue and retain a small amount of faded red luster bordering the rim. A solitary bit of green clings to the inside of the oak wreath at the 10:00 position. Details are in line with the AU=55 grade level and show nicely under the loop. This key date cent will be the centerpiece of any circulated set.
