Graded MINT 9 by SGC. Hall of Famer, revealed on the condition-sensitive "First Card" in its set. This is the only example at its tier (with none graded higher) among a total of more than seven hundred copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Topps' selection of baseball pioneer and soon-to-be superstar Jackie Robinson as the first subject in the company's 1953 issue inadvertently created one of the hobby's most popular (and frustrating) condition rarities. The depiction is very difficult to find without visually troublesome signs of wear, especially in the unforgiving black caption area. Presented here, however, is a uniquely impeccable specimen. This collectible's artwork is unusually vibrant with incredibly intense color, and the image's centering is especially pleasing. The fragile, full-bleed border at the item's bottom-right aspect is completely uninterrupted, and the card's tremendous depth of original gloss is particularly apparent in this area. The corners are frighteningly sharp, revealing no discernible wear, and the back is clean and free of blemishes. This is absolutely one of the nicest 1953 Topps Jackie Robinson cards in the hobby, and it will be a worthy headliner in the most sophisticated assembly. Singularly exemplary Mint condition.
