When you look up the records for the best left-handed pitchers, Steve Carlton’s name appears near the top of every list. He was such a dominant pitcher that in 1972 his 27 wins single-handedly accounted for an unbelievable 46% of the Phillies victories that year. Carlton was the last of the old-school work horses, being the last NL pitcher to win 25 or more games in a season and the last in the majors to work more than 300 innings in a season. He won four Cy Young Awards and was voted to the All-Star team 10 times. After playing for the Cardinals, Phillies, Giants, White Sox and Indians, “Lefty” spent the last two seasons of his 22-year Hall of Fame career with the Minnesota Twins where he won the last of his 329 games. This glove can be dated to the 1987 and 1988 seasons by the manufacturers year code (OBE01) and because of the number “38” written in black marker on the glove, the number he wore as a Twin. The Rawlings Pro 76-VC glove features a rare Velcro wrist strap and palm extension. Shows good game use and he has signed the outside of the thumb “Lefty Steve Carlton Final ML Glove” in blue marker. A letter signed by Carlton himself attests to the provenance of this glove as does an 8x10 MLB print of Carlton as a Twin pitching and using this glove. LOA from PSA/DNA.
