In 1986 Sweet Lou Piniella became the manger for the New York Yankees, after the Yankees finished in second place in the AL east with a record of 97-64 in 1985.  Piniella managed from 1986 through 1988, where Dallas Green took the helm for a year in 1989 preceding Buck Showalter’s term as manager from 1990-1995.  The Yankees during these years finished as high as second place in the division and featured some of fan favorites like Don Mattingly, Willie Randolph, Dave Winfield, Ron Guidry and Rickey Henderson.

This lot offers a collection of Ten (10) team signed Yankees baseballs in various conditions, mostly showing toning and some signatures appearing lighter than others as evidenced in the photos.  The earliest baseball is from the early 1980’s featuring 17 signatures on a Lee MacPhail baseball.  The baseball includes names such as Yogi Berra, Bobby Murcer, Dave Winfield, Willie Randolph, Bucky Dent, Graig Nettles, Goose Gossage and Ron Guidry.  The second baseball in the lot consists of 26 Signatures on a Bobby Brown baseball and includes names like Rickey Henderson, Dave Winfield, Don Mattingly, Rob Guidry, Tommy John and Willie Randolph.  The signature of Lou Piniella on this baseball has been deemed Clubhouse. The third baseball in the lot comes from the Piniella era and features 26 signatures.  The key signatures on this baseball include Don Mattingly, Dave Winfield, Roy White, Rickey Henderson, Tommy John, Willie Randolph and Ron Guidry.  The Piniella signature on the sweet spot has been deemed clubhouse.  The fourth baseball in the collection also comes from the Piniella era and consists of 10 signatures.  The signatures include Dave Righetti, Willie Randolph, Rn Kittle and features a clubhouse Piniella autograph on the sweet spot.

The next three baseballs in the collection are all Bobby Brown Baseballs and are also from the Piniella era featuring 29, 23, and 29 signatures with no clubhouse variations.  All three of the baseballs include Rickey Henderson, Lou Piniella, Don Mattingly, Ron Guidry, and Dave Winfield.  Tommy John has signed two of the baseballs as well.

Two baseballs in the grouping are from Buck Showalter’s term as Yankees manager and most likely date to 1993.  The baseballs consist of 25 and 26 signatures and are each on Bobby Brown baseballs, his final year as commissioner.  Both baseballs have signatures of Wade Boggs, Don Mattingly, Lee Smith, Buck Showalter, Jimmy Key, Jim Abbott, Steve Howe, and Clete Boyer.    The tenth baseball in this lot is a Boldly signed Gene Budig baseball that features a reunion of Yankees greats from the late 1970’s and 1980’s.  The baseball consists of 17 signatures including Willie Randolph, Luis Tiant, Graig Nettles, Goose Gossage, Roy White, Chris Chambliss, Moose Skowron, Tom Tresh, and Hank Bauer.  All of these baseballs come from the collection of Willie Randolph and have been pre-certified by Beckett Authentication services.
