This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/11/2019
Offered in this lot are 11 lithographed tins of soccer players on the Argentina men’s national soccer team from the 1930 World Cup in Montevideo. Argentina, the silver medalists in the 1928 Olympic soccer tournament, reached the finals of the inaugural World Cup to face host nation Uruguay. Argentina held on to a slim 2-1 lead at halftime, but a trio of goals from Uruguay handed the hosts a 4-2 victory. These lithographed tins each bear a portrait of an Argentina player, including one with an image of the first World Cup Golden Boot winner Guillermo Stabile. Other players include Carlos Peucelle, Mario Evaristo, Luis Monti, Pedro Suarez, Juan Botasso, Jose Della Torre, Juan Evaristo, Nolo Ferreira, Fernando Paternoster, and Francisco Varallo. The names of the players, as well as “Finalista” and “Argentina”, are printed around the border of the circular tins. These tins exhibit weathering from age, but are in overall good condition with diameters of approximately 1.25 inches. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
