Offered in this lot are 14 lithographed tins of soccer players on the Uruguay men’s national soccer team from the 1930 World Cup. Uruguay, hosts of FIFA’s inaugural tournament, defeated a strong Argentina team in the World Cup Finals at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo to win their third international title of the decade, adding the Jules Rimet Trophy to a cabinet already stocked with a pair of Olympic gold medals from 1924 and 1928. These 14 lithographed tins bear portraits of Uruguayan jugadores, including team captain Jose Nasazzi, Jose Leandro Andrade, Hector Castro, Enrique Ballestrero, Domingo Tejera, Alvaro Gestido, Jose Pedro Cea, Peregrino Anselmo, Pedro Petrone, Pablo Dorado, Lorenzo Fernandez, Santos Iriarte, and Ernesto Mascheroni. Please note there are two tins with portraits of Jose Pedro Cea. Printed along the border of each tin is the player’s name, “Finalistas”, and “Uruguay”. The tins measure approximately 1.25 inches in diameter. Slight weathering is shown, however these tins are generally in good condition. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
