Offered is a lot of 17 vintage photographs of the Philadelphia Athletics baseball club of the American League, including two prints from the camera of legendary baseball photographer Charles M. Conlan. The first item in this lot is a black and white head and shoulder photograph of an unidentified Philadelphia A’s player in uniform. The 8 x 10-inch print has a ¾ x 10-inch tear along the right margin. The back of the photo has a purple stamp “Charles M. Conlon Evening Telegram New York.” The second item in this lot is a 3¼ x 4½ -inch black and white photo of two Philadelphia A’s players in uniform on the first base line on a baseball field with players and others in the background. The photo is inscribed “Collins” and “Gleason” in red pen across the top over the heads of the two players. The third item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of five men posed on a golf course, with the first man on the left wearing a suit, tie, overcoat and hat, while the other four men are in golf clothes.

The fourth item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of three men in golf garb standing beneath palm trees. The upper left corner of the photo is torn, as is the lower left two thirds. The fifth item in this lot is a 4 x 5-inch black and white photo of a Philadelphia A’s baseball player posed with a man in a Native American head dress and garb, with eight similarly dressed men kneeling on the infield of an unnamed baseball stadium. The photo has two creases in the center, a 1-inch tear in the lower left center, and a ¼-inch tear in the upper center. The sixth item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of a Philadelphia Athletics player in full uniform, posed with arms at his sides in a field. The seventh item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of a Philadelphia Athletics player in full uniform, posed with a bat over his right shoulder in a field. There is a small tear in the upper right corner of this photo.

The eighth item in this lot is a 3½ x 4 ¼-inch black and white head and shoulder photo of a Philadelphia A’s player in uniform. The photo has a wrinkle in the upper left and lower right corners. The photo is inscribed “Griffin” in gray graphite on the back. The ninth item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of a man in a cardigan sweater and bowtie standing beneath a white trellis in a garden. The 10th item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of a man in a Philadelphia A’s uniform standing in front of the first base line in a baseball field with a bat in his left hand by his side. There is a small tear in the lower right corner. The 11th item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white photo of a man in a Philadelphia A’s uniform standing in front of a baseball field with a bat posed at his left side. There is a 1½ -inch tear in the upper left corner. The 12th item in this lot is a 3½ x 6-inch black and white head and shoulder photo of a man in a Philadelphia A’s uniform. The 13th item in this lot is a 3 x 5-inch black and white photo of a Philadelphia A’s player with a baseball glove on his left hand, posed in front of the grandstands of an unnamed ballpark. There is a small fold in the upper left corner of this photo.

The 14th item in this lot is an 8 x 10-inch black and white photo of a Philly A’s player in uniform astride a mule with a stadium in the background. This photo has an approximately 9¾ -inch diagonal tear on the left, and the upper left and upper right corners are folded. There is a 2½ -inch diagonal tear in the lower right corner. The 15th item in this lot is a 6 x 8-inch black and white photo of a Philadelphia Athletics player warming up in front of the grandstand, with a crowd forming in the stands. The photo is inscribed “Barrett Athletics Conlon” in gray graphite, with a purple stamp reading “Charles M. Conlon Evening Telegram New York” below the inscription. The 16th item in this lot is an 8 x 10-inch black and white photo of Philadelphia Athletics owner and manager Cornelius McGillicuddy, a.k.a. “Connie Mack,” in a dark overcoat, hat in his right hand at his side, at a presentation with several Philadelphia A’s players and officials, including several men with “W”-emblazoned sweaters. The photo has tears in the upper left corner and the upper right corner, a small tear in the top center margin and a small tear in the lower left margin.

The 17th item in this lot is a faded, reverse-printed 8 x 10-inch black and white photo of a Boston Red Sox player (negative flopped in printing) receiving pitching instructions in a ballpark. The back of the photo has the inscription, in gray graphite, “301 Rev. Ehmke + Slim Harris Pitcher for Today Fastest in League.” Howard Ehmke was a right-handed pitcher who played professional baseball for 16 years from 1914 to 1930, including 15 seasons in Major League Baseball as a pitcher for the Buffalo Blues (1915), Detroit Tigers (1916–1917, 1919–1922), Boston Red Sox (1923–1926), and Philadelphia Athletics (1926–1930). Slim Harris, also a pitcher, was Ehmke’s teammate on the Red Sox during the 1926 season.
