Offered here are two issues of Mundial from the 1950 World Cup originating from the personal memorabilia collection of Uruguayan national icon Alcides Ghiggia. These two issues of Mundial are numbered issue 221 and issue 223. Issue 221 shows Mexico’s goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal, one of three men to appear in five World Cups, making a difficult save above a swarm of players. Issue 223 shows the Brazilian inside left forward Jair fouling Uruguayan goalkeeper Roque Maspoli in the final match of the tournament, shockingly won 2-1 by the massive underdogs Uruguay. Uruguay’s winning goal was scored by Ghiggia, who cut in from the flank to fire past overmatched Brazil ‘keeper Moacir Barbosa. These magazines contain Spanish writing about topics from soccer to anthropology and feature numerous black and white photographs of the 1950 World Cup. Please note the final page and back cover of issue 221 are no longer attached to the binding. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
