Presented here is a letter from the Chicago Bears defensive team to Bears owner George Halas, and Halas’ reply to the players letter, addressed to Mike Singletary. The Bears players requested that defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan and his staff be retained when Halas hired a new coach for the 1982 season due to Ryan’s “excellent job improving the defensive teams performance” and his work in maintaining the “discipline, moral pride and effort that [they] need in order to play well defensively.
Halas, who would hire his former player Mike Ditka prior to the 1982 season starting, replied on December 22nd, 1981, stating that the defensive team’s letter was “a magnificent letter! It [was] a beautifully written letter! It [was] the highest tribute a coach could receive!”. This letter is typed on official Bears letterhead, and Halas has signed it in blue pen. This item comes with a LOA from JSA and a LOA from Mike Singletary.
