Presented here are two Los Angeles Lakers media guides from 1987-88 and 1988-90, both signed by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The 1987-88 Lakers were the toast of the NBA, winning 62 games in the regular season and taking out the “Bad Boy” Pistons in a seven-game NBA Finals. The 40-year old Abdul-Jabbar was a consistent contributor throughout the regular season, starting 80 games and averaging 14.6 points per contest. In the Finals, Abdul-Jabbar shut down the Pistons front court and chipped in 13.1 points per game. This media guide features cover art by Michael J. Taylor, and it has been signed by Abdul-Jabbar in blue marker.
Abdul-Jabbar played his 20th and final NBA season in 1988-89. Abdul-Jabbar helped led the Lakers to yet another NBA Finals appearance, averaging in double-figure points for his 20th consecutive season. Abdul-Jabbar retired as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer, with over 38,000 points, and as one of the best players in Lakers’ history.
