Although many teams have relocated and been forgotten over the years, the Brooklyn Dodgers have retained an almost mythical air about them. During the 1940's and 50's the Dodgers won seven National League pennants yet managed only one World Championship. While fans of other teams would have been disheartened, Brooklyn's working class attitude and colorful cast of characters made their Dodgers the first to be called "America's Team". Now almost 60 years after the team left in 1957, the Brooklyn Dodgers continue to hold the interest of fans and fascinate collectors who were not even alive during the team's existence. Just looking at these two colorful pennants conjures up all the excitement and heartbreak of the teams’ glory years. The first one dates from the 1940's and measures approximately 25". A rustic color batting scene is depicted on a red background with "Ebbets Field" written above the stadium. "NATIONAL LEAGUE CHAMPIONS" is printed in white below the stadium scene. The 4 felt tassels are still attached and there are small pin holes visible on the three edges. Despite its age the graphics show only slight cracking and the colors remain bright. The second pennant measures approximately 25 1/2" Circa 1952, it shows a much more realistic depiction of the Ebbets Field facade framed by crossed bats. "NAT'L LEAGUE CHAMPS is printed below the stadium. The body of the pennant carries BROOKLYN and the familiar "Dodgers" script in white. The 4 felt tassels are still intact and there are 3 very slight pin holes on the three edges. The printed colors are still vibrant as is the Dodger blue felt. Graphics display only slight cracking. Both these pennants display extremely well and represent two decades worth of Dodger pennant winners. Each pennant comes with it's own LOA from the Pee Wee Reese Family.
