Offered in this lot are a batting helmet and Wilson fielder’s glove used and signed by Detroit Tigers slugger Gary Sheffield. Sheffield played for the Tigers in 2007 and 2008, combining for 44 homers and 132 RBI in the two campaigns. In 2007, Sheffield stole 22 bases, his most in a year since 1998. “Sheff” finished the 2008 season with 499 career home runs, with number 500 coming in 2009 as a member of the New York Mets.
The batting helmet in this lot is navy, with the white Tigers Olde English “D” logo applied to the front of the helmet. Sheffield has signed the brim of this helmet in silver marker, inscribing “Game Used 2007 / Road to 500” in addition to his signature. The helmet coms with a LOA from JT Sports for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature and inscriptions.
The glove is a dark brown Wilson A2000 with black accents. A Wilson tag is sewn on the wrist and a pair of circular Wilson logos are sewn on the thumb and on the back of the webbing. “Gary Sheffield” is embroidered in yellow on the back of the thumb. Sheffield has signed the back of the glove’s webbing in silver marker, inscribing “Game Used” in addition to his signature. This lot comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for the signature and inscriptions.
