This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/11/2019
Offered in this lot are two identification cards issued to Uruguayan goalkeeper Andres Mazali by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF). The first dates to 1942, when the 1924 and 1928 Olympic gold medalist served as a defensive coach for the Uruguayan men’s national soccer team. La Celeste claimed the 1942 South American Championship after finishing runners-up in the previous two editions of the tournament. Uruguay finished the tournament undefeated in six games, scoring 21 goals and allowing only two thanks to a sturdy defense anchored by holding midfielder Obdulio Varela. This ID card shows an image of Mazali inside the bifold cover, which is printed with “1942”, the letter “C”, and a pair of AUF crests.
The second ID card is from 1974. An AUF crest is printed on the front, while a photograph of Mazali is located inside the bifold cover. This ID card is printed with “Andres Mazzali [sic] Olimpico 1924”. Also included in this ID holster is a card from the 1974 “Fondo de Recuperacion Y Reorganizacion Deportiva”. Both ID cards are in good condition considering their age and use. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
