Presented here are three postcards signed by Hall of Famers who played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first two postcards have been signed by Paul and Lloyd Waner, brothers from Oklahoma who spent the bulk of their careers with the Pirates during the 1920s and 1930s. Paul “Big Poison” Waner manned right field in Forbes Field, while Lloyd “Little Poison” Waner patrolled the vast expanse of center field in the concrete and steel cathedral located in South Oakland. Both men were incredible hitters, finishing their careers with batting averages of .333 (Paul) and .316 (Lloyd). Paul made the Hall first, with his election taking place in 1952. In 1967, Lloyd was enshrined via the Veteran’s Committee.

Lloyd Waner signed this light blue colored postcard in blue pen. Waner’s signature is strong and slightly off-center to the left. The cared and Waner’s signature are in good condition with only edge and corner wear on the card. Paul Waner signed his name in blue pen on this cream-colored card on one side with a handwritten note on the top above his signature in blue pen that reads “Please sign this post card”. The reverse of this card is addressed to a “Thomas Burderi 1495 Montgomery Ave Bronx, NY”. A postmark is stamped with “AUG 23 1956” from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This side also has a red stamp “THIS SIDE OF CARD IS FOR ADDRESS” with a “2 CENTS UNITED STATES POSTAL CARD” stamp on the upper right corner. The Paul Waner signature comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication and the Lloyd Waner signature comes with a COA from Beckett Authentication (S36831).
