The Splendid Splinter is a Boston Red Sox legend. Millions of New Englanders celebrate the life and career of Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters in the history of baseball. Offered is a lot of two Ted Williams signed lithographic prints celebrating his professional baseball career. The first item in this lot features Ted Williams signature in black marker in the top left corner of a 20 x 25-inch illustrated color collage. Williams has inscribed “1936-1960” in black marker below his signature. The collage depicts Williams in profile later in life at the left side of the print, in his trademark navy-blue windbreaker, Boston Red Sox cap, bat in hand over his left shoulder. At the center is an illustration of the Fenway Park façade facing Lansdowne Street, with a crowd of people entering the stadium. The upper right corner has Williams in his iconic pose swinging a bat in his Red Sox uniform, with a vignette of Williams at bat in a game to his left. The bottom right corner has an illustration of Williams in a San Diego Padres uniform from his 1936 pro baseball debut in the Pacific Coast League. An illustration of a ticket stub from the Red Sox home game of September 28, 1960, when Williams played his last game and hit a home run in his last at-bat. The collage is titled “The End of An Era, San Diego Padres, 1936 through September 28, 1960, Fenway Park, Home Run Number 521” at the bottom center. This print has been signed by the artist, Lewis Watkins, in gray graphite pencil in the lower right corner, and inscribed 518/521 in gray graphite pencil in the lower left corner. The white paper poster is mounted on white foam board. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (A64023).

The second item in this lot is a Ted Williams signature in black marker on a baseball in the lower left corner of a 23½ x 31½-inch poster print collage of the Boston Red Sox outfielder in two poses with a background of his iconic number “9” Boston uniform. Williams has inscribed “1941” below his signature, also in black marker. Titled “Ted Williams”, the collage features Williams’ red number “9” with blue border on a white uniform with red piping in the background. To the left of the collage is an image of Williams in his home Red Sox uniform poised on the top step of the Fenway Park dugout. To the right is an image of Williams in his debut season, 1939, in a Boston Red Sox road uniform with a 1939 Centennial of Baseball patch on his left sleeve. Williams is kneeling on his right leg with a bat in his hand and a glove at his left foot. The collage is signed by the artist, Lewis Watkins, in gray graphite pencil in the lower right corner, and inscribed “518/521” in gray graphite pencil in the lower left corner. This item comes with a LOA from Beckett Authentication (A64024).
