The legendary inside right forward Hector Scarone was awarded these three medals for his heroics with the Uruguayan National Soccer Team in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Scarone was one of the best players of his era, playing for Nacional in Uruguay, as well as Barcelona, Internazionale, and Palermo in Europe from 1917 to 1939. Scarone won 52 caps for La Celeste, scoring 31 goals and winning four South American championships, two Olympic gold medals, and the 1930 FIFA World Cup. Later in life, Scarone managed Real Madrid and Millonarios of Colombia.

The first medal in this lot is rectangular, bearing the Uruguayan flag and a sun etched onto the front of the medal. It measures .5 x 1 inch, with a red enamel sash featuring “AUF” emblazoned across the Uruguayan flag. Etched on the reverse side of the silver medal is “Consejo Superior”, “Hector Scarone”, and “Paris 1924”. The second medal is vaguely rectangular in shape, with a high relief image of a man etched on the front. Etched on the back of the silver medal is “A.U. de F. / Al Campeon Olimpico / Hector Scarone / Amsterdam 1928”. The final medal is circular and was issued to Scarone by the Uruguay Centennial Committee in 1930. Etched in high relief on the front of this silver medal is a woman in a Spartan helmet holding a sash etched with “Constitucion” to represent the Centennial of the Uruguayan Constitution. Also etched on the front of this medal is “H.S.” for “Hector Scarone” and “Centenario 1830 1930”. The back of this medal is etched with an image of a cactus, as well as “Republica Oriental Del Uruguay” and “Escribi La Ley Y Obedezco A Mi Libertad”. This circular medal measures 1.25 inches in diameter. All three medals are in good condition. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
