The 1978 World Series saw the New York Yankees face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers in a rematch of the previous season’s Fall Classic. The Yankees, who made the playoffs by virtue of a thrilling one-game playoff against the Boston Red Sox, rode their inexorable momentum to yet another World Series title. Hall of Fame closer Rich “Goose” Gossage was instrumental to the Yankees success, appearing in three World Series games without allowing a run. In Game 3, Gossage earned the victory by pitching the final two innings of the Yankees 5-4, 10-inning victory at home. Gossage also closed out the series by pitching another two scoreless frames in relief of Catfish Hunter to end Game 6, a 7-2 Yankee victory.
Offered in this lot are three Official 1978 World Series Bowie K. Kuhn used during the 1978 Fall Classic and signed by Gossage. Gossage has signed these three balls in blue pen on the panel south of Kuhn’s stamped signature. He added the inscription “’78 WS Game Used Ball” to two of the baseballs and “’78 Game Used Ball WS” to the final orb. Two of the baseballs exhibit light toning, and this lot comes with a LOA from Gossage himself.
This lot has a Reserve Price that has not been met.
