The 1996 New York Yankees was a special team for their fans. Since 1978, the Yankees had only appeared in one World Series and went through several mediocre and losing seasons before the young group drafted by Gene Michael began to pan out. After a heartbreaking Division Series loss to the Seattle Mariners in 1995, the Yankees changed managers and brought in Joe Torre. The team responded by winning the American League East and advancing to the World Series, where they spotted the Atlanta Braves a 2-0 lead in the series and rebounded to win the next four games to win the title.
Offered here are three 1996 World Champion hats that have each been signed by 15 members of that beloved 1996 World Champion New York Yankees’ squad. These hats are all-white wool with a patch on the front that has “World Series 1996 Champions” and the interlocking “NY” in the middle. An “OFFICIAL CLUBHOUSE CAP NEW ERA” logo patch is sewn on the side. All of the signatures on each hat have been signed in blue marker. Signatures in this lot include Hall of Famers Derek Jeter, Whitey Ford with other signatures including David Cone, Mickey Rivers, Paul O’Neill, Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Gene Michael, Mel Stottlemyre, Willie Randolph and others.
