Offered here are the bat and ball used by Florida Marlins infielder Bret Barberie to record the first base hit in Marlins history. The Marlins first game took place on April 5th, 1993, at Joe Robbie Stadium against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Barberie, hitting second, knocked a single off Dodgers starter Orel Hershiser in the bottom of the first inning of the Marlins eventual 6-3 victory for the first hit in franchise history.

The first item in this lot is the Official National League William D. White baseball used for the hit in question. Barberie has inscribed “’The’ Marlins 1st Hit 4/5/93” and signed the ball in blue pen on the panel to the south of the sweet spot. His bat, a Cooper Pro 100 Bret Barberie model stick, is also included in this lot. This ash bat is un-cracked and shows excellent use. Barberie’s number “8” is written on the knob in black marker and the end of the bat is cupped. The handle is coated with an ample layer of pine tar. Barberie has signed the barrel of this bat in black marker, inscribing “1st Marlins Hit 4/5/93 off Orel Hershiser 1st inning”. The ball comes with a LOA from JSA (Z83378) and the bat is accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13285). A COA from JSA (U64396) covers Barberie’s signature on the bat.

Additionally, Barberie’s glove from the April 5th game is included. This Wilson 1373 model glove has a Wilson tag sewn on the wrist and a circular Wilson logo sewn on the back of the thumb. “BARBERIE” is written in black marker on the thumb. Barberie has signed the same area in blue marker, as well as on the palm-side of the middle finger slot. Barberie inscribed “Used 1st Marlin Game” on the index finger slot. This glove comes with a LOA from Barberie, a LOA from PSA/DNA (1G00492), and a COA from JSA (U64397).
