Bret Barberie was an inaugural member of the Florida Marlins, selected with the team’s third pick in the 1992 Expansion Draft. Barberie played two seasons with the Marlins, in 1993 and 1994, before joining the Baltimore Orioles. Barberie hit .277 in his first season in Miami, raising his average to .301 in his second campaign with the Fish.

Offered here are the bat, ball, and cleats used by Barberie to hit the Marlins first ever inside-the-park home run. Barberie hit the home run against Mike Perez of the St. Louis Cardinals during the Marlins 2-1 loss to the Redbirds on June 13th, 1994 at Busch Stadium. The offered baseball is an Official National League William D. White sphere. Barberie has signed the panel south of the sweet spot in blue pen, inscribing “1st Marlin inside park homerun 6/13/94 off Mike Perez of St Louis” on the sweet spot. This ball comes with a COA from JSA (V16333). The next item in this lot is Barberie’s pair of size 10.5 Reebok cleats. Barberie has signed the tongue flap of both shoes in silver marker and inscribed “1st Marlin Inside the Park Homerun 6/13/94 off Mike Perez” on the tongue flap of the left shoe. Adhesive and blue backing are attached to the soles of the shoes where they were previously mounted. These shoes come with a LOA from JT Sports for the game use and individual COAs from JSA (V16334, V16335) for the signatures.

The final item in this lot is Barberie’s Louisville Slugger M110 model bat. The handle of the bat is covered in a liberal applique of pine tar, and Barberie’s number “8” is written on the knob and cupped end of the bat. Barberie has signed the barrel in blue marker, inscribing “1st inside the park Homerun by a Marlin 6/13/94 off Mike Perez of St. Louis” above his signature. Adhesive and some blue backing is attached to the back of the barrel where the bat was previously mounted. This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B13277). This entire lot comes with a LOA from Barberie.
