Manager Davey Johnson led the New York Mets to a World Series title in 1986 and the National League Eastern Division title in 1988, losing a hard-fought seven-game NLCS to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Part of Johnson’s success as a manger was hiring the right coaching staff. During the 1985 season, after third base coach Bobby Valentine accepted the managerial position with the Texas Rangers, Johnson brought to his coaching staff Bud Harrelson, who was a former player with the club. Also hired during Johnson’s stint was Bill Robinson, a former outfielder who played 16 seasons with the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Pittsburgh Pirates and was brought on as a hitting instructor. Offered in this lot are two fungo bats and a weighted bat that was used by the coaches.

The first fungo bat is a Louisville Slugger K100 model with Bud Harrelson’s facsimile signature engraved on the barrel. This stick shows excellent use with ball marks and bat rack streaks present on the barrel. Harrelson’s number “23” is hand written in the knob. Harrelson signed the barrel with a fine-tipped blue marker and inscribed his player number “#3”. Harrelson’s signature comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C99787). The second fungo bat is a Louisville Slugger 43 model with Bill Robinson’s facsimile signature. This bat displays moderate use with some ball marks and bat rack streaks present. Robinson’s number “28” is hand written in black marker on the knob end and Robinson signed his name in blue marker on the barrel. Robinson’s signature comes with a COA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (C99786). The final bat in this lot is a weighted bat. The barrel has a weighted thick maroon sleeve with blue, orange and blue stripes down by the lower barrel. The handle has a coating of Mota Stick and the inside of the bat has numerous small beads. This bat comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (EK340103), who have called this "Team Issued Bat" from the "End Of Season 2012". These bats have been pre-certified by PSA/DNA for their use.
