Offered is a lot of three items related to the motion picture, “The Pride of the Yankees,” including a canvas poster, 8 x 10-inch black and white photo of Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig, and a framed and mounted contract and photo of actor Lloyd Brown, who was an extra in the film.  The 1942 film, “The Pride of the Yankees” is a biographical portrait of the late New York Yankees first baseman, Lou Gehrig, who died only one year before its release, at age 37, from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which later became known to the public as "Lou Gehrig's disease."  A 15½ x 32-inch black frame with gray and blue paper mount encapsulates a signed and dated two-page contract between Samuel Goldwyn Inc., LTD (the producer of the movie) and actor Lloyd Brown, who was hired as an extra for the film.  The two-page typed contract, dated February 7, 1942, has Brown’s signature in black pen, along with notations in black pen from the studio.

At the bottom left is a 7½ x 8½-inch black and white photograph of all-time Yankees great Babe Ruth, in a white suit, shaking hands with actor Gary Cooper, in a Yankees uniform.  Ruth has his left arm around Cooper’s shoulders.  At the left top side of the triptych is a silver metallic plaque with black inscription, “’Pride of the Yankees’ 1942 Lloyd ‘Gimpy’ Brown Original Actors Contract From the Halper Collection.”  The lot also includes a 7 x 9-inch black and white photograph of Gary Cooper in a New York Yankees baseball cap and flannel jersey as Lou Gehrig. The back of the photograph has editorial notations in black pencil and blue pencil, as well as date stamps in purple, one reading “Sep 28 1942” and the second “Nov 30 1958” along with a notation “Sun.-Tab”. There are small creases in the center of the photo, and a light red stamp mark in the lower right corner.  The lot also features a canvas movie poster, copyright 1949 RKO Radio Pictures, for “The Pride of the Yankees.”  Black letters across the top state “Samuel Goldwyn Presents Gary Cooper In”, with the movie’s title, “The Pride of the Yankees,” in bold red letters with a white outline below.

The poster has an illustration of Gary Cooper’s head in the center at left, with an illustration of co-star Teresa Wright’s head below him.  At the right side of the poster is the legend, in black letters, “With Teresa Wright, Walter Brennan and Babe Ruth himself Veloz and Yolanda Ray Noble and His Orchestra.” At the lower right is an illustration of Babe Ruth swinging a bat in a pinstriped uniform, in front of an illustration of a cheering crowd.  In red letters in the center is the legend, “It’s The Great American Story!” and black letters that read, “Directed by Sam Wood Screenplay by Jo Swerling & Herman J. Mankiewicz Original Story by Paul Gallico.”  Below Ruth’s figure is a caption, painted in black letters, “Re-Released by RKO Radio Pictures, Inc.”  Below the poster at the bottom right is the caption, “Morgan Litho Corp. Cleveland, Ohio.”  The poster is numbered, in black ink, at the lower right corner, “49/164,” and the notation “37190.”  The 27 x 41-inch color canvas poster is mounted on a 29 x 43-inch white (front) and tan (back) canvas sheet.
