Hack Wilson’s 1930 season is universally ranked as one of the best in baseball history. Wilson, a stocky centerfielder for the Chicago Cubs, exploded in 1930 with 56 home runs and a Major League record 191 RBI. Today, Wilson’s record seems unbreakable, with Lou Gehrig and Hank Greenberg the only other players to best 180 RBI in a season. Wilson, who hit .356 in 1930 and .307 in his career, was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979.

The first item in this lot is a scorecard signed by Wilson. The scorecard is for a game between the Cubs and the Brooklyn Robins, with Wilson listed as the starting centerfielder for the Chicago nine. Wilson has signed the back cover of this unscored scorecard in gray pencil. This item comes with a LOA from JSA (Z30372). The next item is a vintage copy of The Springfield Union from September 18th, 1930. It contains mention of the Cubs road game against the New York Giants on September 17th. Wilson drove the Cubs to victory in this contest, hitting his 51st and 52nd home run of the season to lead the Cubs to a 5-2 victory. Wilson finished the game 3-4, with four RBI and two runs scored. This newspaper also mentions that construction on the Hoover Dam had commenced, and that the Louisiana House of Governors voted to drop impeachment proceedings against Governor Huey P. Long.

The third item in this lot is a 2001 SP Legendary Cuts Hack Wilson card. This SP Legendary Debut card features an authentic piece of a Hack Wilson game used bat embedded in the card. This card has been encapsulated and graded a NM-MT+ 8.5 by Beckett Authentication (0009407384). The centering and corners have both been graded 8.5, while the edges have been awarded a grade of 9 and the surface a 9.5. The final item in this lot is a 1930 W554 Hack Wilson card. It has been encapsulated and graded a 40 VG 3 by SGC.
