The Oakland A’s seemed to have the formula for drafting the right players in the 1980s and it all came together for them in from 1988-1990 with three straight American League championships including a World Series Championship in 1989. The A’s had three consecutive Rookie of the Year winners with Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire and Walt Weiss in 1986-88 and added veteran pitchers Dennis Eckersley to go along with Bob Welch the 1990 Cy Young Winner and Dave Stewart a 22-game winner for the club in 1990. Adding a key free agent in Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson in 1989 who went on to win the 1990 AL MVP award, combined with two trade acquisitions in 1990 adding Willie Randolph and Willie McGee the A’s were destined to repeat as the American League Champions and would go on to do so winning 104 games during the regular season and swept the Red Sox in the ALCS to capture their third straight pennant.
This collection of World Series baseballs comes from the collection of Willie Randolph who obtained these during the series. All five of the baseballs have Hall of Fame manager Tony La Russa on the sweet spot. One of the baseballs contains 27 signatures while two others have 29 and two others have 31 each. All five of the baseballs have been signed by Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley and superstars Mark McGwire. Rickey Henderson’s autograph appears on two of the baseballs. There is some minor toning on the baseballs but overall still present very well with mid to high-grade signatures. The signatures come pre-certified by Beckett Authentication.
