Offered here is a collection of five New York Mets batting helmets worn in 2006 and 2008. The first helmet, a black Rawlings size 7 ¼ helmet with a flap over the left ear, was worn by Jose Valentin in 2006. Valentin’s name is applied to the brim and back of the helmet, which comes with a LOA from Mets-Steiner Collectibles. The second helmet, a blue Rawlings size 7 helmet, was worn by Eli Marrero in 2006. Marrero, a righty, played the final season of his career in 2006. Marrero’s name is applied to the brim and back of the helmet, which comes with a LOA from Mets-Steiner Collectibles.

The third and fourth helmets in this lot were both used during Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS against the St. Louis Cardinals. The first was worn by Anderson Hernandez, who appeared in the game as a pinch runner. This size 7 ¼ Rawlings batting helmet has a flap over the right ear and a piece of tape printed with “ANDERSON HERNANDEZ” applied to the underside of the brim. This helmet comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (BB 234977), which authenticates the helmet as “team issued”, a common designation for items collected by MLB in the postseason. There is also a LOA from Mets-Steiner for the game use. The second NLCS helmet was worn by Darren Oliver. This Rawlings helmet is a size 7 ¾, with the flap over the right ear. This helmet comes with a LOA from Mets-Steiner Collectibles and a MLB Authenticated hologram (BB 234972), which authenticates the helmet as “team issued”, a common designation for items collected by MLB in the postseason.

The final helmet in this lot was worn by Ryan Church on September 28th, 2008 against the Florida Marlins. This was the final game in the history of Shea Stadium. Church was the final batter in this contest, flying out to deep center against Matt Lindstrom to end the Mets’ 45-season tenure at Shea. This helmet has “Church” applied to the brim and the back of the left-handed hitter’s helmet. This helmet comes with a MLB Authenticated hologram (BB 916921).
