In the emotionally charged period following the tragedy of 9/11, the New York Yankees provided a welcome bit of relief for their grieving city by taking the 2001 American League pennant. The team came up short in the seven-game World Series that followed, however, falling in defeat to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Yankees did come within two outs of becoming the first club in more than 40 years to record four consecutive championships.
Offered here are six Official Major League Allan H. Selig stamped baseballs that have been signed by members of the 2001 American League Champion New York Yankees. Each ball has been signed in blue pen and this lot’s signatures include Hall of Famers Mariano Rivera and Joe Torre. Other signatures include Paul O’Neill, Shane Spencer, Tony Clonginger, Mel Stottlemyre, Bernie Williams, Andy Pettitte and several others. This entire lot comes with a JSA Auction LOA. Please note that the Jeter and Mussina signatures on all of the baseballs have been deemed clubhouse versions.
