Presented is a lot of seven game-used and inscribed baseballs from various games, from the collection of the late owner of the Los Angeles/California/Anaheim Angels, Gene Autry. The first item in this lot is dual-signed Official American League Bobby Brown baseball with the signatures of Gene Autry (in blue pen) and former California Angels manager Buck Rodgers (in black pen) on the sweet spot. The ball is inscribed “Spring Training Closing Day 4-1-92 Palm Springs” in black ink above the sweet spot. The second item in this lot is a Dean Chance signed and inscribed baseball. The former California Angels righthander has inscribed “Sept. 30, 1966 Cal 2 Cle. 0 Best Wishes, Dean Chance” in blue pen on the Official American League Joseph E. Cronin baseball. Chance was the winning pitcher in that game, throwing a nine-inning two-hit shutout. The third item in this lot is a Nolan Ryan signature and inscription on an Official American League Lee MacPhail baseball. The Hall of Fame pitcher has signed his name in black pen on the sweet spot, and inscribed “No Runs No Hits” above the sweet spot and “Minn 0 Angels 4 12-28-74” below the sweet spot. Ryan pitched a no hitter against the Minnesota Twin on September 28, 1974 at Anaheim Stadium. It was the third no-hitter of his career, all three with the Angels – he would go on to pitch a total of seven no-hitters in his career.

The fourth item in this lot is a game used OAL MacPhail baseball from Nolan Ryan’s no hitter on September 28, 1974, in which the California Angels beat the Minnesota Twins, 4-0, in Anaheim. The fifth item in this lot is a game used OAL MacPhail baseball inscribed “Home Run 8-11-78 Angels Kingdome” in black pen. The Angels Joe Rudi hit his ninth home run of the 1978 season in the top of the 2nd inning against the Seattle Mariners on August 11, 1978 at the Kingdome, en route to a 3-0 Angles victory. It was the lone home run for the Angels in the contest. The sixth item in this lot is a Brian Downing signature and inscription on an OAL MacPhail baseball. The former California Angels catcher has inscribed “To Mr. Gene Autry Best Wishes Brian Downing California Angels 10/5/79” in black pen. The seventh item in this lot is a Gene Autry signature and inscription on a game used OAL MacPhail baseball. The ball has been inscribed “Last Ball in play to Clinch A.L. West 10-2-82” and signed “Gene Autry” in blue pen on the sweet spot. A second inscription, also in blue pen, reads “Sanchez to Carew.” Autry’s California Angels clinched the American League West division crown on October 2, 1982, the 161st game of the season, with a 6-4 win over the Texas Rangers. This lot comes with a LOA from Jackie Autry.
