Here is a spectacular, signed and inscribed sepia photograph of Lou Gehrig – the famed New York Yankee who appeared in 2,130 consecutive games. The circa-1930s, 7" x 9" relic reveals a determined Gehrig engaged in a fielding exercise while a uniformed teammate or coach observes from a short distance away. Across his white, pinstriped trousers, Gehrig employed black fountain pen to inscribe, "To Pete / With Kindest Personal Regards / Cordially / Lou Gehrig." This compelling image of the "Iron Horse" projects with crystal clarity, with working faults (tape residue, a small puncture at the top edge, general peripheral wear) not affecting the meaningful elements of the outstanding depiction. This is a stellar artifact that calls to mind the intensity of Gehrig's athleticism, as well as the oncoming pathos of his tearful farewell from baseball at just 36 years of age. Gehrig's signature comes with a full LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication, who have graded his signature a NM-MT 8 and a LOA from JSA. This photograph has also been classified as a Type I photograph by PSA/DNA.
