Presented here is a baseball signed by a quintet of some of the best MLB umpires in the history of the sport. The first signature on this baseball belongs to Nestor Chylak, a Hall of Fame inductee in 1999. Chylak was well respected in his day, and was an umpire for the now-infamous “Ten Cent Beer Night” in Cleveland in 1974. He was forced to call this game a forfeit after he was hit in the face by a thrown chair during the fracas. Another signature belongs to Hank Soar, a former two-way player in the NFL and a longtime ump. Soar was at first base during Don Larsen’s perfect game.
The next signature belongs to Ed Hurley, the home plate umpire during Eddie Gaedel’s lone MLB at-bat. He umped 2,826 major league games, including four World Series and three All-Star Games. Additionally, Bill McKinley and Joe Paparella have signed this baseball. The signatures of Paparella and McKinley appear on the sweet spot. All of the signatures have been written in blue pen. This Official American League William Harridge baseball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (W06392).
