Presented is a Marilyn Monroe personally-owned costume jewelry, of silver metal and clear stones necklace. The 16-inch necklace has a metal clasp at one end. Each of the metal elements of the necklace have a clear stone embedded on the front; the back of each is solid metal. There are five “pendants” along the length of the necklace, each approximately 1-inch. Monroe, one of the most popular film actresses of the 1950s, was one of the world's biggest and most enduring sex symbols. Her films grossed more than $200 million. She is known for her relationships with Arthur Miller, Joe DiMaggio and, possibly, John F. Kennedy. Monroe’s accidental death at only 36 years old only added to her legend. According to the letter of provenance, this item came into the hands of a private collector through a chance meeting with the film star in 1961, as she was packing her bags to leave New York City and return home to Hollywood. This piece of costume jewelry is reminiscent of the items Monroe wore in the 1953 film, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” and evokes a period of on-screen glamour and excitement still associated with Monroe over half-a-century since her passing. This item comes with a LOA from American Memorabilia.
