Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, wore this red satin jacket in the early 1980’s, gifting it to one of his guitarists in 1981. Jackson’s career was taking off at that time with the release of Off the Wall in 1979. Thriller would be released in 1982, sending Jackson’s celebrity into the stratosphere. In the time between the releases of the two albums Jackson was pursuing various interests, including a series of duets with Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury that were not released until 2014. This jacket was likely worn during Jackson’s downtime during the Triumph Tour, which occurred from July to September in 1981. This was one of the final tours with Michael and the rest of the Jacksons performing as a group as they stopped touring together following 1984’s Victory Tour.

This button-down, satin jacket is primarily red, with white accents on the collar, sleeves, and waist. A Hartwell and size “Large 42-44” flags are sewn on the back inside collar. “MICHAEL” is written on the bottom of the jacket in black marker. Jackson has signed the inside of the jacket in bold red marker. This jacket comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AB09864) and a LOA from David Williams, a guitarist for Jackson who was originally gifted this jacket.
