The 1982 NCAA title game between North Carolina and Georgetown was arguably the coming out party of a young Michael Jordan. Taking place at the Louisiana Superdome, the final game of the 1982 NCAA Basketball Tournament was a thrilling contest, featuring Jordan and James Worthy’s North Carolina squad matching up against Patrick Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas. It was the 19-year-old Jordan, not yet a superstar, who hit the game winning shot, rising from the left wing to finalize the score at 63-62 in favor of the Tar Heels. This is widely considered MJ’s launching point, the transformative event that put him on the path to becoming the greatest player in basketball history. That moment is brilliantly captured here in this 24 x 30-inch black and white print that is framed to a dimension of 29.5 x 35.5 inches, showing Jordan in the air with the ball on his fingertips as he was releasing the game-winning shot. The shot was taken from the baseline and is one of the best images of that famous shot. Jordan has signed his name in black marker below and to the right of his image and inscribed “My Very Best”. The photograph has been matted and framed in Carolina blue and black. This comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (B03004).
