Offered is a Mickey Mantle signature on a New York Yankees gray road jersey. The Hall of Fame slugger has signed his name in blue marker on the left front under the navy-blue tackle twill letters “NEW YORK”. The Wilson jersey has six gray buttons down the front and a navy-blue and white elastic cuff on the sleeves. There is no name or number on the back of the jersey. The Yankees have worn the same road uniform since 1918 (except for 1927 to 1930, when the arched "NEW YORK" was replaced by the word "YANKEES").
The Yankees did, however, make some minor updates to the road uniforms prior to the 1974 season, including adding striping patterns to the sleeves and a white outline to the jersey numbers and the "NEW YORK" arch. This has remained since and was the only significant change to the road uniform until mid-2016 season when the road batting helmets became painted with a matte finish, rather than the gloss still used for home games. Mantle played his entire Major League Baseball career (1951-1968) with the Yankees as a center fielder and first baseman. He was one of the best players and sluggers and is regarded by many as the greatest switch hitter in baseball history. Mantle was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1974 and was elected to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999. This item comes with a STICKER ONLY from Onyx Authentication (A030191), and with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25491).
