In just his third season in the Majors, Mickey Mantle hit .295 with 27 homers as the New York Yankees won 99 games and the American League pennant. That fall, for the 4th time in 7 years, New York faced their archrival, the Brooklyn Dodgers. Mantle hit 2 home runs and drove in 7 of his team’s 32 runs as the Yanks downed Brooklyn in six games. One of the fruits of the 1953 World Series victory for Mantle was this gold commemorative watch which he gifted to a member of his family. The Lady Elgin boasts a custom face with the famed Yankees bat in the hat logo and engraved with “1953 WORLD CHAMPIONS.” The numbers are marked by diamonds and the wrist band crafted in a Mid-Century Modern style. The back of the watch case is engraved, “PRESENTED TO MICKEY MANTLE BY THE BASEBALL COMMISSIONER.” The watch shows some tarnishing with age along with scuffs and abrasions expected from wear. A rarely seen World Championship commemorative piece, awarded to Mickey Mantle and gifted to his admiring family. This comes with a LOA from the family of Mickey Mantle.
