Summer Premium Card and Memorabilia Auction Closing August 7 & 9
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 8/9/2021
Presented is a Muhammad Ali signed 16 x 20-inch color photograph print of the three-time heavyweight champion standing over the former champion, Sonny Liston, in their second heavyweight title bout. Ali has signed his name in blue marker in the center of the photo, over his white boxing shorts. He is standing over Liston, who is flat on his back in the center of the ring, taunting the fallen former champ. The two Ali (then Cassius Clay) vs. Liston fights are legendary. The first bout was held on February 25, 1964 in Miami Beach, Florida. Clay, who was a 7–1 underdog, won in a major upset, when Liston gave up at the opening of the seventh round (after being clearly dominated in the sixth). Their second fight was May 25, 1965 in Lewiston, Maine, which Ali won with a first-round knockout. The photo by "Sports Illustrated" photographer Neil Leifer is almost as legendary as the fight itself. This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
