The Sonny Liston-Cassius Clay fight was the fight that introduced America to its newest sporting hero, a brash up-and-comer from Louisville named Cassius Clay. Before America had time to fall in love with Clay, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali, embarking on a quest of American excellence and heroism. Arguably the most famous athlete of all-time, Liston-Clay was the fight that sparked the legend of Muhammad Ali.
In what would become one of the most controversial and iconic fights of the 20th century, Clay defeated Liston in six brutal rounds. Liston, who boxing historians posit tried to blind Clay in an underhanded attempt at achieving victory. This photograph shows Ali with his hands aloft in celebration while being hugged and restrained by his cornermen. This photo depicts, in full color, the turning point in American boxing history. Ali signed this photograph as Muhammad Ali in silver marker. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (3A74500), who have graded Ali’s signature a perfect GEM MT 10!
