The rematch between Muhammad Ali and Sonny Liston in 1965 was one of the most highly anticipated boxing matches of the century. Ali had dominated their first matchup, talking trash and inflicting a ruthless beating on the slower Liston. Due to Ali’s recent conversion to the Nation of Islam and Liston’s alleged connections to organized crime, the original host of the fight, Boston, pulled out of hosting at the last minute. The fight was quickly shuttled to Lewiston, Maine, where the two heavyweights were slated to match up on May 25th, 1965.

The fight was over almost as quickly as it started, with Ali flooring Liston on an almost invisibly-fast punch two minutes into the first round. Liston could not beat the count, and Ali claimed his second consecutive victory over the once-unbeatable fighter. Presented here is a ticket from the heavyweight title fight signed by Ali. Only 2,434 fans attended this fight, the lowest attendance of any heavyweight championship fight. Ali used black marker to sign his name on this orange ticket. The ticket has been encapsulated by PSA/DNA, who have assigned the autograph a perfect GEM MINT 10 rating (83927227).
