What’s unique about a baseball signed Cassius Clay from a World Series? Well, Cassius Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali in 1964, and there was no World Series in 1994. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful white Rawlings Official Ball of the 1994 World Series, with a clear signature of “Cassius Clay” in blue ballpoint pen ink on the sweet spot. Another interesting feature of this baseball is the stamping, which is in red, with a red Rawlings logo on top, the stamp “Official Ball 1994 World Series” in the center with two red stars, and the logo of the 1994 World Series on the bottom. Also notable, there is no “Commissioner of Baseball” logo or signature on the ball.
Clay changed his name to Muhammad Ali in 1964, following his winning the heavyweight boxing titles at age 22 in an upset over Sonny Liston. Major League Baseball cancelled the 1994 World Series on September 14, 1994, in the midst of a contentious strike by the Major League Baseball Players Association. It was only the second time in World Series history it was not played (the only other time was 1904). This ball is accompanied by a LOA from JSA LOA (B78005).
