The incredible series of fights between Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali came to a head in the third meeting between the two fighters, known the Thrilla in Manila. Going into this fight the matchup was tied, with each fighter pocketing one victory. Tensions were high going into the Philippines, where the fight was held, and the sweltering heat of Quezon City only heaped more pressure onto Ali and Frazier. Billed as “The Saga of Our Lifetime” on the fight poster, the fight lived up to its hype. Ali claimed a hard fought victory over Smokin’ Joe after Frazier’s corner conceded the fight before the beginning of the 15th round. Later, Ali would quip that this fight was the closest he ever came to dying in the ring.
Presented here is a framed and signed fight poster from the Thrilla in Manila. The poster, painted by acclaimed artist LeRoy Neiman, shows abstract versions of Ali and Frazier. The two fighters signed the poster in black marker and this piece has been framed to a 15 x 23 inch dimension. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AB12541).
